Amy L. Harris is a Nationally Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). In her 15 years of working with people with dementia, Amy has witnessed firsthand how creativity offers individuals with dementia an opportunity for meaningful experiences and positive social interactions. As an artist herself, Amy understands the importance creativity plays in living a full and emotionally rich life especially for people who have dementia. The creative/rhythmic centers of the brain may maintain functionality long after other complex cognitive skills begin to decompensate. It is highly advantageous to engage these areas of the brain regularly for enhanced functioning.
